Major Characteristics of AMCC

PROTECTION OF CHILD RIGHTSDAM is a strong advocate of “Child Rights”. It has its own Child Protection Policy. The project has been prepared to protect child rights as well as human rights of the children who are most vulnerable and provide them all facilities and human rights. Child rights will be ensured throughout the project.ENROLMENT CRITERIAParentless children of 6-8 years of age who live, work’ play and sleep on the streets will be the beneficiaries of AMCC. Children will be selected from most vulnerable children (MVC) of the disadvantaged families with equal treatment of both sexes (boys and girlsSELECTION OF CHILDREN

AMCC will recruit staff at divisional levels and they  will select children in close cooperation with MOWCA and law enforcing agencies with partnership of organizations who are running  drop in centers for most vulnerable and disadvantaged children ;ACCOMMODATION

AMCC will provide full residential accommodation with modern living standard and appropriate security. There will be separate age group based dormitory for girls and boys. Boys and girls ratio will be is 50:50.Maximum cleanliness and hygiene practices will be maintained in the dormitory. All dormitory will be a peaceful living place for nurturing open mind and thinking.STRATEGY TO MOTIVATE CHILDREN TO STAY IN THE CHILDREN VILLAGES

Continuous motivation and friendly environment will be created for children’s stay in the villages. There will be recreational activities for the children to attract them to stay in the villages. The whole environment of the Children City will be joyful and the children will have sufficient opportunity to participate in various sports and cultural activities. If any child is found to be feeling bored or does not like to stay in the village, the care giver will give more time and efforts to that child to overcome the situation. Special arrangement will be made to link children with legal guardian if any for those who do not like to continue in the AMCC.

FOOD AND CLOTHS

Age specific nutritious food will be provided to all children having provision of special diets for special days. Age and gender appropriate cloths will be provided including school uniform.

EDUCATION

AMCC will provide free education up to Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate HSC if needed. Competency of NCTB (govt.) curriculum will be followed in the AMCC curriculum. In addition, specialized education for learning about health, hygiene, sanitation, discipline, human rights and civic responsibilities etc will be provided. Multi grade and learners centered teaching learning process will be followed in the primary education. There will be rich library and adequate supplementary materials in all AMCC school and college. There will be provision for ICT class room and use of multimedia contents in the AMCC school and college. Regular assessment and progress monitoring will be inbuilt in the curriculum. Various co-curricular activities will be arranged. AMCC will provide special training for AMCC teachers.

DEVELOPING CREATIVITY AND LEADERSHIPScope will be created to develop leadership quality. Creative thinking and creative writing will be encouraged during school timing and leisure time. Various competition (within dormitory and inter dormitory) will be arranged and accomplishment certificates will be issued. There will be regular film show on educational and subject related issues.

SUPPORT FOR HIGHER STUDY  

Efforts will be made to create linkages with the Open University for continuation of study. Support will be provided to the children for their admission into the Public University for higher education. AMCC will link up students with the Corporate Sectors to bear the costs for their education as part of their CSR. Opportunities will be created for sponsoring each child by well to do families or Institutions for the whole duration of their study.

SUPPORT FOR VOCATIONAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND INCOME GENERATION

Vocational skills training will be provided as compulsory subject along with academic program as per their interest and previous knowledge and skills. Vocational skills training will start from the age of 14. There will be provision of loan under micro finance credit scheme for purchase of required equipment, tools, raw materials who want to enter into world of work.

This provision of vocational training for skills development enables them to enter into gainful wage employment or self-employment. In addition arrangement will be made for  job placement and self-employment through linking program with potential job market, prospective employers and entrepreneurs.

DEVELOPING CHILDREN’S POTENTIALS

Each child has immense potentials but due to various limitations and lack to scope only few of them got the proper support for blooming of their potentials. AMCC will have a special programme to identify potentials of every child living in the children cities. A regular talent hunt programme will be conducted and appropriate support mechanism will be designed i.e. support for musical talent, support for art and culture, support for game and sports.

One trainer/ coach will be appointed in each area of talent. Each coach in each specific area will pick up children from all the children villages for placement in a particular village. All the villages will be organized according to particular areas of talent. Boys and girls will get equal facilities for training in all the areas .Play ground, swimming pool, gymnasium facilities and all other required facilities will be created for nursing the talented children. Potential sportsman and other talented boys and girls will be linked with divisional and national level institutions and academies for further nourishment.PARENTS /GUARDIANS GATHERING

There will be quarterly meeting with guardians of the children if any. Provision will be created for participation of guardians in the special events (sports and cultural activities). If they have family there will be provision of family visits.

STAFF TRAINING AND ORIENTATION

Regular orientation and basic training will be provided to all AMCC staff on child rights and issues of social services including life skills. Training manuals and orientation guidelines will be prepared to systematize training programmes;

SPECIAL SUPPORT

Personal guidance, counseling and rectification services will be provided to those children who have a past record of involvement in any crimes and other antisocial activities in cooperation with legal support service providing organizations.

Project Strategy

  • The implementation strategy of the AMCC is to ensure integrated services and facilities for rehabilitation and potential growth through a complete residential support following enrolment until they are educated up to SSC level and side by side be given hands on training on various trades up to 18 years of age. The core strategic agenda for the achievement of rehabilitation are described as follows:
Enrollment and Survival : Outreach activities, full residential accommodation, socio-legal protective environment, nutritious food, clothes, safe water,sanitationand  health care.
Capacity Development and Empowerment : Quality basic education particularly in primary and secondary school certificate (SSC), vocational training, life-skills and child rights training, cultural events, sports competitions, picnic, observance of national days, and socialization with neighboring communities until the children are 18 years old.
Rehabilitation/Mainstreaming through Job Placement : Job placement support, counseling and guidance, wage-employment, self-employment, seed money for small business.
